Uganda Arts Outreach
The New York City dance community will unite to raise funding
and awareness for Uganda's first dance school.
Dancers from dre.dance company, The Alvin Ailey School, The
Juilliard School, Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel Performance Group,
Broadway Dance Center, Delirious Dance Company, Creative Outlet
Dance Theater of Brooklyn, SOULOWORKS/Andrea E. Woods, Bemoved
Dance Company, and other incredible institutions will assemble
to perform for the Queen, VIPs, and a New York audience in the
first events of their kind!

At The Soul Level: dances celebrating the spirit and the soul!
SOULOWORKS/Andrea E. Woods & Dancers performs a variety
of evocative, thoughtful and energetic works combining, dance,
music, spoken word and multimedia as contemporary African American
folklore. The dances draw on themes such as family, nature,
community, and African American history and culture. Souloworks'
creative choreographic process is inspired by folk traditions
such as blues, jazz, folk music, African American literature,
family folklore and movement reflective of the African Diaspora
social and cultural experience.

MAMA'S AND PAPA'S STORIES- MOVEMENT AND SPOKEN WORD Workshop
ANDREA WOODS, Artistic Director of Souloworks
Informing the choreographic process with movement, memory and
myth, this workshop is a movement/voice exploration geared to
stimulate / generate ideas for dance making by using family
history and anecdotes. While exploring as a group and as individuals,
we will use stories and relationships from our nuclear and extended
families, living and ancestral, as resource material for the
choreographic process. The workshop will include a group warm
up and participants should wear lose comfortable clothing or
sweats and bring notebook/journal, pencil/pen, family memories,
stories and myths to share.
